YOUR SAFETY · BEFORE YOU BOOK

Before you book.

A piercing is a passage your body has to heal, so a few things help us keep it safe. None of this is medical advice — when in doubt, talk to your physician. Where it matters, we may ask for medical clearance before we pierce.

  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding

We ask you to wait. A new piercing takes months to heal, and during pregnancy or nursing your body is already doing important work. Please talk to your physician about the right time — most piercers suggest waiting until after this season.

  • Minors

Under California law, anyone under 18 must be pierced in the presence of a parent or legal guardian, who also shows their own photo ID. Nipple and genital piercings on minors are not permitted by law. Please bring your guardian and plan to talk it through together.

  • No alcohol or drugs

We cannot pierce anyone under the influence. It comes down to informed consent and your safety — intoxication affects bleeding, fainting and healing. Come sober and rested, and we will take good care of you.

  • Medications

If you take blood thinners, isotretinoin (Accutane), immunosuppressants or other regular medication, tell us before booking. Some need clearance from your doctor, and Accutane usually means waiting. Never stop a medication on your own — ask your physician first.

  • Health conditions

If you live with diabetes, a heart or valve condition, a bleeding or clotting disorder, an autoimmune condition, metal allergies, a skin condition at the site, or a history of keloids, please consult your physician first and let us know. We may ask for medical clearance.

Not sure whether something applies to you? Ask before you reserve — write to marimari@wenumapuonline.com and we will confirm first.

SAFETY · STANDARDS

Body-safe by default.

All starter jewelry is ASTM F-136 implant-grade titanium — bio-compatible, hypoallergenic, and safe to wear during healing. No mystery alloys. No surgical steel for first piercings. We use only sterile single-use needles, autoclave-sterilized tools, and disposable gloves.

Healing is a passage — your responsibility starts the moment your appointment ends. You'll receive a printed aftercare card with cleaning ritual, healing times by zone, and a 14-day check-in by email. The full online guide lives at aftercare.wenumapuonline.com.

AFTERCARE · DOWNSIZE · HEALING

Healing is a passage.

What you do after the needle matters as much as the piercing itself. The full cleaning routine lives in the care guide — here's the part most people miss: why your first jewelry is longer than it looks, when to downsize, and when your piercing is finally ready for anything you like.

1 · Downsizing — the follow-up visit

Your first jewelry is deliberately longer — it leaves room for the swelling that comes in the first days, so the jewelry doesn't get embedded. Once the swelling drops, that extra length has to be shortened (downsized), or the long bar snags, migrates, causes bumps, and in oral piercings can damage teeth and gums.

Only a professional piercer should downsize — poor sizing raises complications sharply. It's preventive: it won't fix an already-irritated piercing.

2 · When can you wear anything?

Once a piercing is fully healed — no discharge, swelling, redness or tenderness — you can change to other quality, pre-sterilized jewelry: implant-grade titanium (ASTM F-136), solid 14k gold, or glass.

For fresh piercings, stay with quality internally-threaded or threadless pieces only. Organic materials (wood, stone, bone) are for stretched, fully-healed lobes only — never a fresh piercing.

3 · Stretching · expanding

Only on a fully-healed lobe. One size at a time, never skip a gauge. Wait 4–6+ weeks per size (longer at larger sizes). Never force it — use a taper and lubricant to insert, then jojoba oil and massage. If you see thinning or a blowout, drop a size and wait.

Get a reminder for your downsize & healed date

Tell us the piercing and the day you got it. We'll estimate when to book your downsize and when your piercing should be ready for other quality jewelry — then you can save it.

Estimates follow APP healing-time standards — your piercer confirms the timing for your body. This isn't medical advice; if anything looks or feels wrong, see your piercer or a clinician.
